However, this does not mean that it won’t get repaired. Dead-laptop is a common problem all over the world.

Four methods to recover data from your dead laptop-
Recover your dead laptop data with external hard drive case
If your computer or a laptop is broken due to some external factors like software got corrupted or the motherboard is damaged due to overheating; however, you don’t have to worry.
Your laptop may be damaged, but not your hard drive. You still have a second chance to recover data from a dead laptop.
In order to restore data from the hard drive of your dead laptop, you need to get an external hard drive case and a new computer with the same operating system.
Now remove the hard drive off from your damaged laptop and put it in the hard disk enclosure.
Next, you need to put that hard drive into an external case and connect it to a working computer via USB cable.
Now, as the drive is connected, just save your files from the undamaged hard drive into your new laptop.
Once you did transferring all the data, reject the external hard drive case.
If you are non-techy and finding it difficult to remove the hard drive from a dead laptop, then I would suggest you take help from a professional engineer.
This is one of my favorite methods to recover data from a dead laptop as it is easy, and you don’t need to have much technical knowledge.

Reboot your computer in safe mode
The “Safe mode” is an option available in all operating systems to troubleshoot and diagnose the system just in case the laptop doesn’t boot as usual.
Firstly, using safe mode, you would be able to detect and fix the essential software issues causing trouble.
Secondly, when you enter Safe mode, you have the option to backup your crucial data to an external drive; after that, you can restore the data back once your laptop is repaired.
Therefore, always check with Safe Mode, if you can solve your problem before giving it to the repair center.
There are many ways to open a safe mode in Windows, and you can check them online.
If this method isn’t working for you or somehow facing the problem; It is recommended to use a data recovery software to recover data off a dead laptop.

Recover Hard Drive Data from the Cloud Backup
Currently, there are many cloud backup services available in the market to ensure the safety of your laptop data.
It is advised that you always save your data into cloud storage.
If you already have a cloud backup of your laptop’s data, then you are good to go! Recovering data from a dead laptop would be very simple, just restore the cloud backup.
To restore data from a dead laptop, you need another good laptop or a computer and login into your cloud account and restore the backup files.
Cloud backup is one of the best and easy methods to recover data from a dead laptop.
If your safe mode method didn’t work for you, then you should try the cloud backup method. But make sure you have the backup of your data into cloud storage.
Restore Data using another Computer (Mac Only)
For this method, you need a FireWire and a working Mac laptop. (Mac because these steps will only work for Apple MacBook)
A good FireWire will cost you between $10-$15. Now, let’s proceed further.
Now, make sure your MacBook has much space to save all the data from the dead laptop.
If you don’t have extra space in your Mac, you can connect an external drive to your new Mac.
Now, connect the dead MacBook to a working MacBook using the FireWire cables.
Next step is to boot up the working MacBook in Target Disk mode via the below steps:-
- Run your computer as usual.
- Click the Apple icon at the top of the screen in the menu bar.
- Choose System Preferences.
- Select the Startup Disk.
- Click Target Disk mode.
Now you can reboot your laptop and let it start in Target Disk Mode.
After that, open the dead device’s hard drive on the desktop of your Mac and move your old files by simply copy-paste, or you can use drag & drop option.
This process looks easy, but it might take a few hours if your file size is large.
