Solutions to fix slow WIFI speed:-

Check your ISP-

How to fix slow WIFI speed?

If you’re experiencing a slow internet speed, you must run a check on the speed of your internet. You could have this done online through “speedtest.net“.

If your internet speed isn’t certified OK, after the test, then you may have to do an internet service upgrade.

If this does not work, you must decide to call your ISP customer care to make sure of the service that you’re on.

Then, you should attempt these different options:

  •  Troubleshoot the device
  • You should run checks on the device and its position, and establish if there are interferences.
  • A good WLAN router assures a faster internet, but you must ensure a good connection to avoid a variety of speed problems.

 Initiate a WLAN Router Reboot-

Initiate a WLAN Router Reboot

Most times, this applies to your router problems. A reboot will help your routers connect JD channels with less traffic, and this will improve the internet speed.

You can reboot your router through the following steps:

  • Unplug your WLAN router from the power source.
  • Wait for over a second
  • Plug your WLAN router to the power source.
  • And reconnect to check if it’s faster.

Attention: You should set a daily automatic reboot on your device. This protects you from having to reboot it from time to time manually. You can set the router to do a check through the settings.

Check the Router Position-Check the Router Position

Positioning is vital for router speed and signal and is usually unnoticed. Once you place the router in a corner, it would weaken the signal you get on your device.

It’s better to position your router where it’s easy to access. You must place your router on a high platform to increase its coverage and centralize it in order to make it available to the approved devices.

Obstacles like concrete or metal boxes interfere with WLAN signals. You’ll have to be sure that signals aren’t blocked by these big and thick objects.

Choose an appropriate WLAN channel-

Whenever there’s an excessive amount of traffic on the road, a tangle of movement is usually the experience, right?

It was the same when too many of us use the same WLAN channel at a time.

This will have an effect on the performance of the WLAN channel. Hence, if your WLAN speed is faster when people exit the channel, that’s a sign that it’s the traffic.

The standard frequency for the WLAN channel is 2.4 GHz and 5GHz. The availability of only one channel on your router will cause congestion and have an effect on the performance.

If your channel is a dual-channel band, you should manually change it from one frequency to the other; from 2.4 to 5 GHz. This helps to speed performance.

The following steps show the way to set this up:

  1.  Check the IP address, username, and password on your wireless router.
  2.  Open your browser on the computer, then type the IP address in your browser and press Enter.
  3.  Type your username and password, then click Login.
  4.  Visit the wireless option and click on Wireless 2.4 gigahertz or Wireless 5 GHz, and change to a less-crowded channel.
  5.  Attempt your WLAN connection again and see if it works faster.

 Check for browser interference.

WLAN signals are interrupted by different channels that use a similar frequency to your router.

If you’ve got a Bluetooth device installed on your computer, this device could be running at a similar 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz frequency that your router is on.

Hence, you should check your devices to know if it’s on a different frequency.

  1.  Put off the interfering devices, and disconnect from the power source.
  2.  Attempt to reconnect the WLAN and see if its performance has improved.

If the matter has been resolved this way, it would mean there was a device interference.

Then move your WLAN router to a different place, so that they do not stay in the same frequency.

Put off plugins and apps that function by bandwidth-

After troubleshooting your router and confirmed its performance, you may have to put off plugins and applications that are interrupting your router’s information.

Bandwidth hogging is a slang coined for internet users that use a similar higher bandwidth.

You may notice this when your browser speed reduces. All you’ve got to do is wait until the transfer is completed, or tell the persons involved in the problem in order to reduce traffic.

A reduction in usage can improve the performance of the WLAN channel.

Additionally, you’ll have to install an Adblock plus to stop ads from expanding your internet data.

Select a brand new DNS server-

DNS Server

A DNS server includes a database of IP addresses and linked hostnames, and translates website domains to IP addresses that the computer can understand.

By default, your router uses your ISP’s DNS server, and this can be slow at times. The quickest DNS server is the one that is physically nearest to your location.

If you notice this, you can change the settings by altering the DNS.

Attention: confirm and change DHCP for your router and your laptop before you decide on a brand new DNS server.

Take these steps to alter your DNS server:

  1.  Open your router by using steps 1, 2, and 3 on top of answer 2.
  2.  Visit DHCP > DHCP Settings, and type the DNS server for Primary DNS and Secondary DNS. Then click Save
  3.  Check your router speed to see if I have improved.

Update your WLAN driver-

Update your WLAN driver

If the matter is not resolved through bandwidth troubleshooting, the problem may be the result of an obsolete package.

Find the proper update package and transfer it to your device. If you cannot find your way around problems assigned to driver packages, use the installed Driver Easy.

Driver Easy can show the driver status on your computer, and install the proper drivers for your computer.

Driver Easy will check and transfer the proper package on your system. It can save you time.

You can update your drivers mechanically with either the FREE or professional version of Driver Easy. It only takes two clicks with the professional version.

  1.  Transfer and install Driver Easy.
  2.  Run Driver Easy and click on “Scan currently”. Then Driver Easy can scan your computer and identify drawbacks in your drivers.
  3.  Click the Update button next to the driver’s name to transfer and install the proper driver (you can do this with the FREE version). Or click Update All to mechanically transfer and install the proper version for all the drivers that matter (you can do this with the professional version, and it will update when you click “Update All”).
  4.  When you change the driver, restart your computer, then hook up to the WLAN to find out if it resolves the problem.

Unclick the power saver option on your device-

If you activated the power saver option, it is possible that power is being saved on your adapter. Windows will decrease power to your adapter, which will sacrifice internet performance.

Visit the control panel from the start menu and click on “System and Security”. Then, click on “Power Options” so click on “change setup settings” next to your selected set up.

In the next screen, click on “Change advanced power settings”, and the power options will open up. Here, click on “Wireless adapter Settings” and set it to “Maximum Performance”.

Are you on VPN services?Free VPN Service

All VPN services slow down internet speed. This is because of VPN routing traffic through the servers that encrypt and de-encrypt periodically.

This slows down performances because the internet service must be changing to accommodate the process, and this will incur more data.

To improve your internet speed, you may have to discontinue VPN services or get a better internet plan.

Deal with Internet Malware-

Internet Malware

An internet worm or malware is a malicious package that spreads from devices to the internet.

This is an ex burden on your internet speed. Hence, confirm that your anti-virus has been updated and is running on your device to eliminate all internet worm or malware.

Decide on the right Internet Service Provider-

Call your ISP, if all the options above have been tried. This will be because of issues your ISP will be glad to resolve it.  It may be the wireless internet distance.

In weak signal surroundings, confirm that you’ve opened your wireless and not your neighbours. This incidence is often overlooked.

Other questions that are important when you’re fixing a slow WLAN and miscellaneous queries on troubleshooting your WiFi/WLAN are:

Why it’s important to encrypt your WLAN even if it would have an effect on its performance;

An open internet is one that isn’t encrypted and left for the unknown user. This is often a risky situation, and it can cut back the speed of your WLAN remarkably.

Asides are slowing down the connection speed; malware may be transferred to your device. Your email could be hacked and can lead to a lot of spam mails sent to your mailbox.

Even though a de-encrypted connection will improve performance, the disadvantages involved far outweighs the benefits.

What are encoding security settings the fastest?

There are different types of encoding. However, the oldest, slowest, and easily cracked is WEP. The most reliable one that supports quick performance is WPA2-PSK with AES.

WPA-PSK and TKIP may be the successive best choice when compared to WPA2-PSK.

Each of them is secure, but the easiest to use is WPA2-PSK with AES.

Are you on a wireless G and wireless N or wireless AC?

Wireless G routers and wireless adapters are rated at 54Mbs by the manufacturer, and run on a slow protocol. These routers don’t have the capacity for high performance.

It’s like having a power generator with 15.6 KVA written on it, but the real output is actually 10/KVA. Sadly, if you’ve been victimized with this kind of router, it’s like being short served.

Another limitation of this technology is that only 23 Mbs of the stipulated 54 Mbps is made available.

The remaining 23 Mbs would have been eaten up by regular communication, by retransmission, encoding, and the surroundings. As a result, this technology will not perform beyond 23 Mbs.

Are you still experiencing a slow performance?

Old USB ports may even be the reason when it involves the speed of the router. This becomes even slower after they are being used on an equally recent laptop.

Before USB 2.0 was introduced, it was USB 1.0 and 1.1 that were used. The manufacturer’s ratings on each are 12 Mbs.

However, the factual output is around 8 Mbs. One would be lucky to have one beyond 8 Mbps on USB 1.0 and 1.1 ports. It is understandable that a USB port of over 12 years would definitely cause a slow internet speed on your device.

Check your WLAN device for a brand new update-

If you do, you’ll facilitate the functions on your device. A shift from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz has its own blessings and downsides.

From the manufacturer, most routers go with 2.4 GHz frequency. Lower frequencies have a wide bandwidth of radio frequency.

It’s simple for this low frequency to travel through obstacles and cover a large distance. 2.4 GHz is compatible with each wireless G and N modes.

The 2.4GHz is an unaccredited frequency, and it’s available to all manufacturers and customers.

Therefore, it’s easy for this channel to be cluttered with several users. This will lead to regular interference.

The 5 GHz will technically transmit more data once there’s an excellent opportunity. Hence, it’ll be faster in perfect surroundings.
